Find of the week….

This is what I love about my job, no two days are the same.

I have always wanted to own a saddle horse and this oak Victorian one is exceptionally handsome.

Perfect for throwing clothes over in a country inspired bedroom or a characterful towel & loo roll holder in your bathroom.

A very rare find so please get in touch or please share this with someone who would love it.

The Nature Table….

October has flexed its muscles with the first storm of the season- I hope everyone has safely made it through storm Austen?

All the more reason to hunker down and snuggle in.

I cannot help dragging some of the outside in with me as we head into the clutches of autumn.

Bountiful bowls of shiny conkers, jugs filled with lichen covered twigs, pumpkins, handmade & real sit nestled amongst old skulls and bones- it’s that hard/soft juxtaposition that I adore.

Are there things that you cannot help bringing inside too?

Stay cosy and have a happy Friday.

For arts sake….

I hope you’ll love the new paintings I have curated for the shop this week~ I’m completely smitten.

A collection of original oil on board studio paintings by mid century London artist Paul Evans.

A talented artist who exhibited at The Royal Academy & spent time teaching at Central St Martins.

With a gorgeous mixture of earthy palettes & thoughtful expressions, I am delighted to bring this collection to the shop.

Currently unframed & getting ready for the website.

Please get in touch with enquiries.

This month marks the 1st anniversary of opening the shop here in Midhurst, West Sussex- it has been a real privilege meeting so many lovely local & visiting customers- it really feels like home now.

What began as a little dream of mine, has survived a tough old year & I feel enormously proud to still be throwing open the doors each day.

Finally becoming a shopkeeper means that I can now spend time chatting with people as they pop in & share the joy of discovery-nothing beats seeing peoples reaction to the items I have curated for the shop.

When times are challenging, I will never take for granted that you have chosen to take time to visit & choose things for your home with me, so thank you for your support.

To help celebrate, why not pop in on Thursday 29th October to enjoy a glass of bubbles & 10% off almost everything in the shop.

Please feel free to share this post, grab some friends & join me - the more the merrier!

So here's to the next year - I am already planning some exciting events to take place in the shop, which I can't wait to share with you.

I really hope you can join me on the 29th to enjoy a little thank- you treat.

With hugs,

Lottie X

Slipping through my fingers…

Sometimes I have to remind myself to take the time to really enjoy the pieces that I find.

All too often things come & go, which is of course how it should be, but it can feel like quicksilver, with lovely items slipping through my fingers.

Perhaps you can identify? Life is such a rush isn’t it & taking time to enjoy something beautiful can feel like an unachievable luxury or even another chore!

I’m not complaining, it’s part of my life as an antique dealer, but today I savoured some quiet time in the shop to really appreciate some of the beautiful 1920’s horse racing photographs I recently unearthed.

I hope this weekend you can find time to really savour something beautiful too~ even if it’s as simple as some pretty packaging on your favourite treat.

Have a lovely weekend.

Plumper pumpkins…

October has begun splendidly, the weather here is just perfect & I hope you have the same mix of Autumn sunshine & just a hint of chillier air too?

This is one of my favourite seasons, not least because it means that attention starts to turn away from the garden & I start layering up to create a cosy interior.

Have you thought about scattering a few fabric pumpkins around your home? They add a gorgeously gourdish feel & are a great way to introduce some autumnal texture & pattern.

Wishing you a very happy Friday & if you’d like to take s look at my handmade pumpkins, they are on my website now.

Keep the home fires burning….

Yes we might be experiencing something of an Indian summer, but it is a wise person indeed who readies themselves for winter.

Which is why I have transformed the shop window into a log store.

Stunning log baskets now available ~ make like a squirrel & grab yours now.

Just jump in….

I don’t know why, but I always put off starting my photography sessions, but once I jump in (there’s the shoe reference), it’s actually a part of my job that I really enjoy!

Please tell me I’m not alone~ do you put jobs off when in actual fact they’re never as bad as you think? Let me know.

The moral of the story? As we used to say in retail- JFDI

Anyway, Friday is nearing completion, I have a heap of new photos to sort through & I’m ready to lock up & head home.

Both feet people.

Come on in…it’s been a little while….

There are so many lovely new pieces in the shop since I last showed you round.

One of my favourites is the old French shop counter~ is it wrong to hope it doesn’t sell & I can keep it forever?!

Please do get in touch if you see something you like, I am always very happy to send out measurements & more detailed photos.

Have a wonderful weekend

Early starts have their advantages…

Getting some early morning steps in begun during the heatwave ~ getting an early morning dog walk was essential.

But it’s grown into a favourite habit & a great way to start the day.

Something else that has become LIFE-CHANGING is my membership with @fitpositive.ie

If you’re a woman in your 40’s-60’s then I simply cannot recommend Claire enough.

I joined in July & have seen amazing results & so have others who I have recommended this to.

Take a look at Claire’s page~ I think you’ll love it!

Very Victorian…..

One of the biggest privileges of my job, is to handle items that are sometimes difficult to part with.

A family heirloom holds such special memories & parting ways can be emotional.

My job is to be fair & understanding ~ I never take for granted what a privilege it is to be invited into someone’s home, nor to be entrusted with a special piece.

And so, it falls to me to be the conduit for items that need new homes, new loving owners & to begin the next stage of their fascinating lives.

Bringing you a beautiful Victorian etagere. A stunning piece in wonderfully original condition.

Could this be for you?

Please get in touch for more information.

I’d love to hear how you prepare for Autumn….

Here are a few of my tried & tested ways to embrace the cosy season.

~The chimney sweep is booked (Btw did you know that you should have an annual certificate for your house insurance in case of fire?)

~The log store is full & neatly stacked & we’re all looking forward to the first fire of the season.

~ Summer clothes have been packed away & out come the winter woolies & cosy layers.

~Lightweight cotton & linen cushion covers have been laundered & put away. Textured, heavier replacements are now offering a cosy place to curl up.

~ Throws & blankets aired in the late August sun have begun to appear on the backs of chairs & sofas just ready for chilly nights.

~ Summer shells & pastel colours have been swapped out from the shop to make way for all the warm colours I have been squirrelling away throughout the year.

~ Twigs, conkers & cones start appearing in great bowlfuls on nearly every surface, nestled alongside a multitude of candles.

~ This years handmade fabric pumpkins are waiting in the wings to make an appearance so do keep an eye out for their arrival.

~ Christmas stock has all been ordered & I am eagerly anticipating delivery of some beautiful pieces.

~ And perhaps one of my favourites ~ next years diary insert has been ordered (I can’t help it, it’s that back to school/new stationery habit!)

How about you? Pop a comment below, I’d love to hear.

Oh, and if youd like to visit the shop, here are next months opening hours:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturdays open 10.30-5pm

Other days by appointment.

Happy Autumn
