Vintage Nuttall’s Mintoes sweet shop tin

Hello Sweetie………

One of my favourite things when I was growing up, was when I got to mind the sweet shop for my Grannies neighbour in Ireland.

If I close my eyes I can still smell the sugar, see the rows & rows of sweet jars behind the penny-worn counter & hear the tip tap of eager summer sandals on the worn chequered floor.

It’s why we played mud shops as children, why I became a retailer & I have to confess that our ‘shop like’ larder was the reason we bought this cottage!

I love collecting old tins, they’re great for storage & make wonderful vases (with a jam jar popped inside) too.

This beautifully aged Mintoes tin would have been very at home in Mrs Mac’s sweet shop, in fact this large size would have certainly topped a counter or been used in a window display as a form of advertising.

Nuttall’s sweets are still made today, the company was formed in Doncaster in the 1880’s, with the famous Mintoe being created in 1912.

The tin measures approximately 23cm high x 19cm circumference & is in great vintage condition.
